About the Photographer
A Texas native, born in Houston, Courtney grew up on her family's ranch in Marble Falls. Whether it was walking her goats to the gate and back or playing hide-and-go-seek on horseback, she could always be found outside.
Courtney's passion for photography started when she was 15. She asked for a 35mm film camera for her birthday that year, and it has been by her side ever since. After studying photojournalism at the University of Texas at Austin, Courtney knew there was a world of adventure waiting for her to explore; she has never looked back.
She worked in the travel industry for many years, documenting people and landscapes from Asia to South America, and other places in between. In 2018 she decided to unpack her bags for awhile and start her own local business, Hitch the Photo Trailer.
In 2023 she found herself walking into a familiar pasture full of horses after a particularly hard day. It had been two months straight of working on the road, long days were stacking up and she needed a moment to catch her breath. It was the only place she could think of to go.
Curious eyes surrounded her. Each horse giving her a once-over, sniffing and wondering about the camera hanging at her side. Not wanting to take any photos at first, she wanted this moment all to herself, just scratching foreheads and hugging necks. So instead, she sat down on the green grass right under them and watched the sunset. She hadn't felt that at peace in quite awhile, only remembering how much she had missed being around them and feeling like she was exactly where she needed to be.
Finally turning on her camera, she quickly realized what started out as the end to a really rough day was just the beginning of an opportunity that would give her much more than she could imagine.
When she isn't taking photos, you can usually find her on the lookout for a great cup of coffee, a new mountain to snowboard, a body of water to jump into, or restoring a 1968 VW pickup with her pup Hank the Cow Dog by her side. She calls Round Top home.
